David is a nationally known DUI Defense Expert.* He is one of only 4 Board Certified DUI Defense experts in the state of Florida. After 10 years of recognition as a Board Certified DUI Defense Expert, David was recently awarded recognition as a Senior DUI Defense Specialist. David is also on the Board of Directors and a Faculty member of the National College for DUI Defense. David travels throughout the country teaching other lawyers how to defend their clients in DUI cases. He has been the featured speaker at Continuing Legal Education Seminars focused on DUI Defense, lecturing to and teaching attorneys practicing DUI Defense throughout the State of Florida and nationwide. David has also authored or co-authored nine books focusing on DUI Defense including manuals used by other attorneys to defend their clients.

Mr. Phillips is a founding partner of Katz & Phillips and is an experienced trial attorney in the field of criminal defense. Although Mr. Phillips knew at a very early age that he wanted to be a lawyer, he also found himself intrigued by the various fields of science. Mr. Phillips graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Mr. Phillips’ criminal trial experience began as a third year law student, when he was selected by the Rankin County Prosecutor to serve as a Certified Legal Intern. As a Certified Legal Intern, Mr. Phillips handled hundreds of criminal cases and was the lead prosecutor in multiple DUI trials. Upon graduating from Mississippi College School of Law, Mr. Phillips relocated to Florida where he served as an Assistant State Attorney for the 1st and 18th Judicial Circuits, prosecuting more than 3,000 cases with a heavy emphasis on DUI.

Ryan Katz graduated cum laude from the University of Florida Levin College of Law where he received the top grade in Trial Practice. He has spent much of his life hearing about important issues in criminal defense and learning how to navigate the criminal justice system. Criminal defense law has always been a part of Ryan’s life, whether it was hearing about issues at the dinner table, attending defense seminars, or discussing cases and strategies at home with his parents, both of whom are lawyers. Since starting as an attorney, Ryan has handled dozens of cases involving criminal charges both in misdemeanor and felony courtrooms. Ryan also travels around the state of Florida, teaching at U.S. LawShield seminars helping people to understand how to stay out of the criminal justice system and defend themselves lawfully in Florida. Combining his passion and lifelong involvement in the criminal defense and firearms communities with his law school education has given Ryan the perfect career in criminal defense, Second Amendment, and self-defense law. Although recently licensed, Ryan has more training and experience in this area than most attorneys have in a 30-year career.

Christine Vazquez is an associate attorney at Katz & Phillips, P.A. In fact before becoming an attorney she worked at Katz & Phillips, P.A. as a paralegal in the criminal law section involved in all manner of criminal and self-defense cases. She has advanced training in Human Performance & the Use of Force, Assessing Imminent Threats, and Evaluating the Use of Force Decision Making as well as training in blood spatter crime scene evidence, proper crime scene procedures and DNA identification. Ms. Vazquez is also a zealous advocate of immigrant rights which may be compromised by the criminal justice system.
